Project description

Third-cycle subject: Machine Design

The research unit Integrated Product Development and Design, at the Department of Machine Design, at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management is looking for a doctoral student within Collaborative Innovation and Design. The research unit has about twenty researchers active within the areas of innovation management, design and development of sustainable product and service systems, and transformation of business models.

In this project new concepts are developed and tested – e.g. new transport services, automated vehicles, data sharing, and smart city hubs – to strive towards sustainable transport systems. The doctoral student participates in a larger project that is a collaboration between industry, academia and public sector which is led by Scania.

The doctoral student should analyze how the new concepts and services for city logistics contribute to sustainable transport system and society. Questions include e.g. What organisational innovation capabilities are needed in developing future sustainable urban freight distribution? What socio-technical system uncertainties are present for organisations in the transitions to sustainable transport systems?

The applicant has a master education within Integrated Product Design or Industrial Engineering and Management or similar, and experience from conducting workshops. An important part of the project assignments will include planning, conducting and analyzing interviews and workshops. The applicant should be skilled in both oral and written communication.
