Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, Skolan för teknikvetenskap

Job description

In photonics, the capability to tailor the wavelength and spectral properties of laser radiation relies on the ability to structure and engineer the material properties of nonlinear optical materials. This Doctoral student project aims at engineering novel photonic structures in bulk ferroelectric crystals. This is a branching field between material science and optical physics. Engineering of the linear and nonlinear refractive index in the macro- and nano-scale will be the key technology for realization of novel optical devices and components. The project spans from implementation and characterization of photonic devices to fundamental studies of material properties.

The project will be carried out in the laserphysics group, at Albanova University Center. (www.laserphysics.kth.se). The group provides an international and dynamic environment with research areas expanding from optical materials and laser processing to nonlinear optics and laser physics.

The employment is four years with a possibility of maximum up to five years. Up to 20 percent department duties are included in the employment.

Qualifications

A suitable background for this position would be a Master of Science in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Material Science, with a specialization in optics, photonics or laser physics. In addition to the traditional academic merits, a relevant degree project, international experience, and language skills are regarded as advantageous qualifications.

Applicants must be strongly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis as well as possessing good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.
