Mathematics with specialization in model-driven machine learning

Subject description

Mathematics including development of theory and algorithms using machine learning combined with mathematical analysis and mathematical statistics to solve multi scale ill-posed and inverse problems. The nature of the theory and algorithms shall be mathematical fundamental, but motivated by applications on, above all, multi-scale experimental data, e.g. image reconstruction.

Duties

Development of activities within model driven machine learning and establishment of an own research group. Research and teaching as well as administrative tasks. Contribute to the development of the educational program and courses on both basic and advanced levels.

Supervising Ph.D. students and student thesis projects, often in collaboration with companies. The duties also include responsibility to develop connections between the department and researchers in more applied fields. If the successful applicant is unable to lecture in Swedish at the time of appointment, he or she is expected to be able do so within two years after admission.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

 

  • been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  • demonstrated teaching expertise

 

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2, apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

 

Of highest importance is the applicant’s

  • research skills in the subject field
  • teaching skills in the subject field
  • experience of successful collaborations with researchers and other relevant people outside the field of mathematics

 

Of second highest importance is the applicant’s

  • experience in administering and leading research projects

  

It is also important that the applicant has

 

  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work.
  • expertise in developing and leading activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • administrative and other expertise that are of importance.
  • interpersonal skills.
