Technology education at pre-school and primary school level.

Subject description

The subject field is multidisciplinary comprising technology education adapted for learning and teaching in pre-school and primary school in accordance with the curriculum of the Swedish National Agency for Education.

Duties

The position involves teaching in teacher education programmes and research in the field of technology education. The teacher role involves responsibility for course components or complete responsibility for specific courses, including teaching, course development, examination and course evaluation. The employment may include responsibility for education programmes within the subject field and leadership roles in specific projects.  

The responsibility for research requires the ability to independently establish cooperation and research projects, to acquire research-financing, lead, carry through and publish research of high quality within the field of technology education. The position also includes responsibility for the supervision of doctoral students.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve , and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is the applicant’s

  • demonstrated scientific skill through publication within the subject field relevant to the employment, such as pedagogy, education science and technology education relevant to pre-school and primary school.
  • demonstrated teaching skills in the subject field.
  • experience of teacher education relating to relevant subject field studies for teaching in pre-school and primary school.
  • good communications skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • good collaborative skills.

Of second highest importance is the applicant’s

  • experience in establishing first cycle and second cycle courses.
  • teaching degree or corresponding competence.
  • experience from teaching in pre-school and/or primary school.
  • Expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • ability to interact with society in disseminating research and development work.
  • administrative skill.
  • experience in establishing doctoral studies courses
