KTH Royal Institute of Technology,

Job description

Division of Heat and Power Technology seeks a research engineer who will work in a NFFP7 project focusing on aeromechanical design of low-pressure compressors for aircraft applications. The purpose of the project is to evaluate whether "mistuning" can reduce vibration levels in compressor blade rows. Traditional understanding is that "mistuning" has a negative impact on aerodynamic forced response and fatigue loads. However, recent studies have shown that "mistuning" can actually reduce the amplitude levels of forced vibrations. Mistuning of blades/blisks is more difficult to analyze than the ideal tuned case, as these analyzes require significantly larger structural models.

More specifically, you will focus on evaluating an innovative method of reducing vibration levels in shovel systems by applying deliberate "mistuning". This method will be tested on the rear compressor stage of the virtual demonstration VINK, which has been developed within the NFFP6 program. The aeromechanical tool AROMA, developed at KTH, will be used to investigate aeromechanical optimization of compressor blades / blinks and a robust design of compressor blades will be proposed.

Qualifications

We are looking for a master's degree in aeroelasticity in turbomachines, or equivalent. You have previous experience of project work involving aeromechanical analyzes of turbomachine components.

We appreciate if you have studied in-depth aeromechanics in turbomachines and if you have worked with Reduced Order Modeling. Furthermore, it is meritorious with experience of the mistuning concept in relation to forced vibrations in turbomachines

As a person, you are responsible and have a structured approach. You have a high analytical ability and work well in both group and independent.
