Job description

The research engineer position will focus on energy access efforts in developing countries. In particular, the research activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Research and development of the OpeN Source Spatial Electrification Tool (OnSSET) aiming to support national and local policy development for achieving energy access goals.
  • Contribute in electrification activities within the framework of collaboration with the United Nations, The World Bank and other international organizations.
  • Assist in capacity building efforts in the use of the division's toolkit OnSSET by authorities in developing countries.

Furthermore, the candidate is expected to take part in projects and activities in the division, and to contribute to activities related to the application of the Climate, Land, Energy and Water framework for integrated resources assessment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you have:

  • A Master’s of Science degree in Sustainable Energy Technology, or a similar degree
  • A strong background in Energy Systems Modelling and proven experience in collaboration with international organizations working in the field (United Nations, The World Bank etc.)
  • Knowledge of conducting electrification assessments on regional, national and/or sub-national level under a geospatial context
  • Demonstrated competence in (Energy) Resources Assessment through Remote Sensing Techniques, OnSSET, ArcGIS/QGIS or other similar toolkits
  • A firm understanding of the energy situation in developing countries through the involvement in projects with international organizations (e.g. The World Bank, International Energy Agency, United Nations)
  • Fluent communication skills in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing
  • Experience in developing proposals and working with international organizations (e.g. the World Bank, the United Nations)
  • Extensive knowledge in remote sensing techniques and its importance in energy system analysis and planning
  • Good knowledge of Python

To be suitable for this position, you have an ability to rapidly learn and master new energy related woftware. You have a good ability to work in team settings and particularly in dynamic, multi-cultural environments. You should also have a flexibility regarding traveling in the position.
