Third-cycle subject: Civil Engineering with specialization in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering
The announced position is placed under the research group for River Engineering, where the research is focused on basic hydrology and hydraulic engineering, often related to various water resources and environmental problems or hydropower. The PhD student project is funded by the Swedish Hydroelectric Center (www.svc.nu) and will be conducted in cooperation with the hydropower industry.
This project aims at improving imporved knowledge of internal erosion in embankment dams, which is of major importance for the safety of hydropower dams and for supporting the safe transition to a completely renewable energy system. You will conduct physical (laboratory) experiments that investigate phenomenologically the erosion process and develop mathematical tools that can be used analyses of these processes.
You should have a mathematical / analytical interest and basic university education in physics and mathematics, preferably by a Master of Science degree. It is a desirable that you have competence in chemistry and geoscience, especially hydrology. To be admitted to postgraduate studies, you must have passed an equivalent of at least 240 higher education credits.
The position requires that you speak unobtrusively in English and Swedish in spoken and written terms.
