The Division of History of Science, Technology, and Environment conducts research in the field of technology history, environmental history and history of science. Here, research is conducted on industrial memories and cultural heritage as well as historically oriented technology and science studies.

With us the candidate will work in a dynamic and multicultural research environment within the department and the Environmental Humanities Laboratory (EHL). Here, historical studies of the environment are integrated with research on justice, political ecology and other contemporary ways to approach society's major challenges.

Job description

We are looking for a postdoctor who will work in the research project Occupy Climate Change!. The position is for a period of 2 years. The project investigates how civil society organizations and local governments are responding to climate change. The research is done in several cities around the world. The aim of the research is to study the damage and losses caused by climate change, especially as perceived by the grass roots and local organizations, and how they react to them. In the role of postdoctor you will answer for one or more case studies. 

The position includes the following tasks:

  • Coordination of research between the various partners included the OCC!-project
  • Design and implementation of case studies in close collaboration with local activists and academics
  • Contribution to the sub-project "Atlas over other worlds" and studies of climate change plans in different case studies
  • Participation in and presentation of research results at international conferences
  • Publication of research results in peer-reviewed academic journals
  • Dissemination of project progress and results

Qualifications

You have a PhD in political ecology, historical or geographical environmental studies or a related field. You have written scientific publications in relevant journals, preferably also on adaptation to climate change. We would like you to have an editorial experience of working with or for academic journals. It is a merit if you have documented experience of contacts with social movements and groups, as well as the dissemination of knowledge about climate change.

The role requires that you master English fluently. The ability to read, speak and/or write in one of the Scandinavian languages is desirable, but it isn't a must.  You are structured, have good ability to take your own initiative and to start new tasks. You are communicative and have easy cooperation with others. Desirable that you have a habit of collaborating in research projects over disciplinary boundaries.
