Applied physics with focus on experimental quantum photonics

Subject description

The subject includes generation, manipulation and detection of single photons or other quantum states of light, such as entangled photons, as well as engineering of nanoscale quantum optics devices.

Duties

The main focus is to develop and lead research activities in quantum photonics, including building an independent research group with a laboratory largely financed through own research funds, own research, supervision of doctoral students, and research administration.

To a lesser extent, the duties include teaching at undergraduate level, advanced level and doctoral level within the subject field, as well as supervision of M.Sc. thesis works. If the new employee is not proficient in Swedish at the time of admission, the person is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve , and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field
  • documented ability to lead research projects in experimental quantum photonics
  • documented ability to apply for and to obtain research funding
  • teaching skills in the subject field.

Of second highest importance is that the applicant has

  • interpersonal skills.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality
  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work
  • administrative expertise.
