Job description
We are looking for an outstanding personality to join our efforts in devising future approaches for edge computing and wireless networking. The research direction associated with this post-doc position considers novel real-time applications with closed-loop characteristics, where highly responsive edge computing infrastructures are of interest. In this context, the post-doc will conduct and lead theoretical and experimental research with respect to devising and optimizing novel algorithms, architectures and protocols. While theoretical insights are of interest, we mainly strive for experimental results. Apart from the core topics edge computing and wireless networking, the project also relates to different applications like closed-loop control, as well as human-in-the-loop applications like augmented reality. The position includes guiding a team of doctoral students, as well as collaborations with other academic research groups and industrial partners. Therefore, the position represents an excellent opportunity to build a strong foundation for an academic career.

The post-doc will be hosted by the department of Information Science and Engineering. The department consists of 8 faculty members, as well as researchers and doctoral students who contribute to a high professional standard of intensive work and quality results, as well as to a friendly and open environment. The staff has a multicultural background and the working language is English. The department is internationally well established, has many research collaborations with excellent partners worldwide, and is involved in several European and national projects. The excellent research environment at the department promotes creativity and allows a lot of flexibility so that people can work in a way that fits best to them. The work commitment is very high and the cooperative setting creates a positive sense of belonging.

We seek candidates with a strong master and doctoral education in the general areas of Computer Science, Computer Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering. The successful candidate has high academic ambitions, is a team-player, has excellent communication skills (orally, as well as in written documents), and is open-minded. Ideally, candidates must have demonstrated their research potential already through several outstanding publications in international, peer-reviewed, highly selective journal and/or conference publications. We expect publication ambitions of the future post-doc at the highest scientific level. With respect to the specific skill set, candidates should have demonstrated their ability to conduct research in several of the following areas: wireless networking, edge computing, operating systems, algorithm design, optimization, performance modeling, prototyping, software-defined radio networks, and experimental research.
