The Department of Urban Planning and Environment consists of three divisions and is focused specifically on urban and regional studies, geoinformatics and systems analysis and economics. The area of expertise includes research on systems, models and tools for understanding, preserving, changing, managing and developing society, the land and the built environment. The ambition is to analyze the prerequisites, conditions and strategies for sustainable social development, both in national and international context.

Job description

We seek a researcher for doing and writing scientific research overview to contribute to an ongoing project examining opportunities and challenges for planning and mainstreaming of sustainable systems for management of storm and rainwater in cities, entitled: Urban rainwater harvesting from niche to mainstream: challenges and opportunities for planning.  

Literature review, analyses and writing is the primary work task. Within this overarching task, the employee is expected to make a review of the current literature relevant to the research inquiry; sort out, organize and group the gathered literature clearly linked to the purpose of the research question; read and analyse the sourced literature qualitatively and quantitatively; and give a base for concrete scientific responses/evidences to the addressed research question. Work with case study descriptions can be part of the work as well. Co-writing of a scientific article with the aim of open access publication may be part of the employment. The work task builds on already finished work in the project and is carried out in close cooperation with the project leader.  

Qualifications

The applicant must have

  • A PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. urban planning, urban sustainability and transition, sociotechnical system transition, interdisciplinary sustainability science, environmental policy and governance).
  • Previous experience of literature search and reviews
  • Experience in scientific writing
  • Proficiency in written and oral English.

Meritorious is

  • writing and publication of peer-review articles built on strong scientific methods foundation
