Project description
Third-cycle subject: Architecture
The research focuses upon applied urban design and includes practice based research and research conducted in co-production processes. The research has an interdisciplinary character. Central is to understand the relation between the built environment and social processes. Architecture and urban design relates closely to cultural, economic, ecological and political phenomena that are critically explored. The aim is to develop the subject Applied Urban Design, and contribute to theories, methods and tools with the ability to support an urban design practice where sustainability is prioritized. To close the gap between practice and academia is important.
The role of architecture and urban design in relation to segregation, just cities and equal living conditions, and to climate change is central. A critical approach is applied upon public space, resource distribution and how this relates to questions of power. The research is future oriented; configurative analysis, scenario techniques, and analyses of consequences are essential.
You will be part of a research group and contribute to the development of the subject and to the research environment. You will do independent work related to the ongoing research projects, closely together with actors; municipalities, regions, authorities etc. A core question is to explore how social phenomena relates to the built environment and how spatial configurations may be analysed and understood, how living conditions may be mapped and work with representations. It will include empirical work, gathering and structuring of data, modelling and visualisation.
