KTH, School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology & Health

Job description

A one-year postdoctoral research position (with possible extension) is offered at the Division of Applied Physical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry of KTH in Stockholm. The research project is a cooperative one involving the Division of Applied Electrochemisty, Department of Chemical Engineering. The research program concerns application of advanced NMR methods and, on demand, selected optical spectroscopic methods for characterization of molecular and, in particular, ion dynamics in battery components such as electrolytes and carbonaceous solids. Structural features in the latter materials will also be investigated, particularly with the goal of clarifying their effect in the ion dynamics and in charging by alkali ions. Among the NMR methods used, special emphasis will be on solid-state and pulsed-field-gradient-based techniques. The ultimate goal is a better understanding of molecular/ionic features that have a decisive effect on battery performance.

Qualifications

The applicant should hold a PhD, not older than 3 years (net, not including e.g. parental leave), in either chemistry or physics or a closely related discipline. The applicant should have experience with and a proven track-record in NMR techniques and data analysis, with particular emphasis on solid-state NMR and pulsed-field-gradient methods measuring molecular displacements. Experience with electrochemistry is a merit.

The applicant should show good communication skills in English and a good track record of scientific communication as primarily testified by scientific publications. The applicant is expected to be highly motivated and should be able to initiate and autonomously carry out high-quality scientific research.
