Job description

You will be hosted in the Division of Glycoscience at the Department of Chemistry. Our research is focused in various areas of Glycobiology, comprising fundamental research on plants and microorganisms, as well as biotechnological developments towards carbohydrate-based products. Our research requires multidisciplinary approaches that are fully integrated in the Division in the form of interconnected activities in the following areas: Bioenergy, Biomaterials, Biorefinery, Food Sustainability and Disease Control.

We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on the development of a range of new products derived from marine biomass and agricultural crops. As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to play a leading role in a multi-disciplinary research team of postgraduate students and other post-doctoral scientists, and communicate the research results to group members, project partners, and the public. The successful candidate should have a solid knowledge in surface and colloidal chemistry, materials chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biochemistry as applied to biomaterials in general and specifically on fibres and cellulose systems.

Qualifications

The following research experiences are preferable for the employment:

  • Research experience with synthesis of functional polymers
  • Research experience with nanocellulose and chitin nanofibers
  • Research experience with advanced material characterizations

The applicant should hold a PhD, not older than 3 years, in a field of polymer technology, materials science and engineering, physical chemistry or the equivalent. The applicant should show good track record of scientific production and communication. The applicant should also possess:

  • A creative and self-motivated personality, with interest in fundamental and/or applied science;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good team-working skills
