Job description

A short-term position as researcher in astrophysics is available in the particle and astroparticle physics division at the Department of Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The position is from 8th May – 31st Dec 2019.

The astrophysics research programme of the division includes studies of active galactic nuclei, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), supernova remnants and X-ray binaries, as well as the development of instrumentation for X-ray polarisation. These activities are a part of the Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics (http://okc.albanova.se/) at AlbaNova University Centre, which provides a prominent and stimulating research environment. The Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (NORDITA) is located nearby.

The researcher will work on high-energy observations of GRBs. The work will include data reduction and analysis of spectra and light curves from the Swift and Fermi space telescopes.

Qualifications

The applicant must hold a PhD in Astronomy (or a related subject) and have previous experience of GRB analysis using Fermi and Swift. Good knowledge of relevant statistical methods as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are also expected. Candidates should have strong collaborative skills as well as the ability to work independently. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability
