KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Electrical Engineering

We are seeking 1-2 doctoral students with a strong background and interest in Mathematics, Optimization, Machine Larning, and Networks, as well as in Experimental and Systems Research.  The following research directions will be investigated:

  • In networked systems, the challenge of effective data representation is becoming crucial. The number of data types and sources that are available can be very large and range from several dozens to billions. How to identify and produce data representations of lower dimensionality from which efficient and accurate prediction models can be made is largely an open question.
  • The decision-making process in networked systems can be modelled as three subprocesses: 1) estimation of the system state, 2) learning/inference to forecast performance, and 3) control actions to change the system state. These subprocesses are traditionally designed separately. The challenge is to understand how to jointly optimize them.

A successful candidate will perform formal analysis as well as experimental validation of concepts in the context of networked systems.
