Project description

Third-cycle subject: Medical Technology

In the last few years, deep learning has become the most popular tool in medical image processing, with very promising results in many applications, including segmentation and classification. However, the standard tools of deep learning, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN), are not usually suitable for specific applications such as connectivity analysis of the brain, biomechanical simulation and evaluation of cancer treatment. Moreover, medical imaging data is usually scarce compared to other fields where deep learning is often applied. This makes it necessary to create clever data augmentation strategies for training purposes. In this project, the doctoral student will develop new deep learning methods targeting these applications. A strong mathematical and programming background is required for this position. The position is for a licentiate student, which may be extended to a full PhD. The project is partly funded by Eurostars and the Swedish Research Council
