The division of Systems Analysis and Economics at the Department of Urban Planning and Environment develop tools to help others make better decisions and policies, while at the same time contributing to science. The subject is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary. It covers both theory and models for analysis of buildings, transport and communication systems at different geographical scales.

Job description

The Department of Urban Planning and Environment is seeking a PhD-qualified researcher to take a leading role in key parts of two ongoing research projects. The selected person will be situated at the Division for Systems Analysis and Economics (SAE) but also work in close cooperation with researchers at the Integrated Transport Research Laboratory (ITRL), a long-term interdisciplinary collaboration between KTH, Scania, and Ericsson with project support from a further constellation of partners

The selected postdoc will participate in two projects whose purpose is to develop a more sustainable and equitable transport system. The first of the two research projects, financing an average of 50% of the incumbent’s research time, is CIVITAS ECCENTRIC. The project aims to demonstrate and test a wide variety of policies and projects intended to improve the sustainability of urban transport, and to closely monitor their effects on key sustainability measures, and to make international comparisons across the five different implementation sites. The project is funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 framework programme. The postdoc’s role is to support project partners in evaluating their own sustainability measures, as well as lead Stockholm-wide evaluations and report the sustainability impacts and of the implementation process.

The second project, the remaining 50% of the incumbent’s research time, funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket), is “Toward Sustainable Electric Vehicle Use”. This project’s goal is to develop an integrated strategy for the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The purpose of this strategy is to encourage a transformation from carbon-based mobility to electromobility does not undermine travel with other, possibly more carbon-efficient travel modes such as walking, cycling and public transport. The postdoc will carry out primarily qualitative studies on the constellation of stakeholders around electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the Stockholm region.

In both projects the postdoc will independently lead a large part of the project’s activities and communicate the results in both written form in reports and scientific articles, and orally at such venues as public meetings and international conferences.

The postdoc may also contribute in minor ways to the division’s teaching activities, up to a maximum of 10% of total time depending on what needs arise.

  • Have a demonstrated track record of publishing in high-quality scientific journals
