KTH, School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health

You will work at the School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health, at the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology in the Division of Polymer Technology. For more information, go to www.kth.se/fpt/polymer-technology

Job description

We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in designing biobased functional materials, with focus on the development of sustainable synthesis routes and targeting specific structure-property relationships. As today's polymeric materials are to an overwhelming extent fossil-based, there is a strive to transition towards renewable resources and thereby achieve more sustainable options. To achieve sustainable polymeric materials, the full life-cycle needs to be considered from the outset and emphasis should be on everything from viable routes to biobased monomers, sustainable synthesis routes, to end-of-life handling.

The postdoctoral researcher will in this project develop synthetizes strategies, taking the principals of green chemistry into consideration, to achieve selective ring-opening polymerization routes of biobased monomers. The created well-defined and functional polymers structure-property relationships will thereafter be carefully evaluated. As a member of the group, you will be expected to work both independently and in collaboration with researchers and doctoral students within the group.

This postdoctoral position is a full-time employed position for one year with a possible one-year extension. The starting date is open for discussion, though ideally we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.

Qualifications

The applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science or polymer technology. The doctoral degree must be completed no more than three years before the last application date. Documented experience in some of the following areas: organic chemistry, polymer synthesis, ring-opening polymerization or green chemistry is an advantage.

The successful candidate needs to have an excellent academic record of accomplishment, well-developed analytical skills as well as skills within polymer synthesis and problem solving skills. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who can contribute with his or her own ideas and can work independently as well as collaborative. Good knowledge of English in speech and writing is necessary to publish and present research results in international conferences and journals. Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
