KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Biotechnology

The PhD project is part of a larger, crossdisciplinary research project aiming to develop new methods for the measurement of protein, RNA and DNA levels in individual immune cells and to use these methods to gain a better understanding of how the immune system with its different components functions. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council and involves four research groups with competence in immunology, gene technology, protein technology and micro- and nanotechnologies. The announced PhD student position will be in the research group led by Prof. Amelie Eriksson Karlström, at the Department of Protein Science, Division of Protein Engineering. The research group is today composed of six people and the research is focused on the design, synthesis, and evaluation of new biomolecules for use in different medical applications. Recombinantly produced proteins as well as chemically synthesized peptides and nucleic acid analogues are used in the projects. An important part of the research is the development and use of different bioconjugation techniques to produce molecules with the desired properties. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in biotechnology, biochemistry, bioorganic chemistry or a related subject area. Since the PhD project involves collaboration with researchers of different scientific backgrounds, it is important that the candidate has good communication skills.
