Job description
The Department of Production Engineering (IIP) includes techniques which mainly concern engineer technical development of products, processes, systems and methods that have direct impact on this production. The area includes everything from engineering aspects of manufacturing to assembly of components for functional products and recycling issues associated with these disciplines. The department's staff and students come from all over the world and contribute to a very international environment. The Unit for Manufacturing & Metrology Systems (MMS) works with research, education and policy in the area of Circular Economy, with particular focus on manufacturing industry. The research projects are usually related to highly interdisciplinary areas, such as product design, (business) operations, supply chains and information and communication technology in manufacturing setting. Collaborative projects usually involve academics, public sector and industry partners.
In this postdoc position aims to strengthen research and development activities to advance CE research. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate how has sound track record with CE system perspective. The candidate will primarily be involved with:
Qualifications
To qualify for postdoc employment at IIP, the candidate must hold a PhD degree in engineering with M.Sc. and B.Sc. degree in production, manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or equivalent area, not older than 3 years. Cross-disciplinary work and the ability to coordinate and manage complex inputs from a wide range of research disciplines from collaborating bodies across different projects is crucial. The successful candidate has academic publications in leading scientific peer-reviewed journals, preferably in the area of CE.
Furthermore, the ability is required to generate research ideas and use these ideas in order to create research proposals to secure funding. Having experience from similar activities will be considered during the selection process, which include:
Therefore, it is preferred that the candidate has at least 3-year experience in project management with the skills in project planning, execution and reporting are necessary. Having experience from participating and managing large and medium projects is highly valued for this position. Having worked with EU and nationally funded (or equivalent) research projects from the past will be an added advantage.
It is also preferred that the candidate has skills in complex systems modelling and implementing system models to create simulations to obtain explanatory insights on CE systems. Interest and basic knowledge of programming languages like Java, VisualBasic or similar are required. The candidate should be able and be comfortable with working in cross-cultural and cross-functional teams, on local and international level. Therefore, an excellent command of English is required. Finally, the ability to identify relevant stakeholders and disseminate research findings among senior executives and stakeholders from local government and large companies in relevant sectors is crucial.
Knowledge of Swedish is meritorious, further European language skills are a plus. Knowledge in business models, product design, closed-loop supply chain and information and communication technology relevant to CE will be a plus. The candidate should be able to supervise B.Sc., M.Sc. thesis and PhD students at their early stage. Having similar experience from the past is a plus.
