KTH, School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health

The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health consists of nine departments, and over 850 co-workers. It is represented in four strategically important locations in the Stockholm area – centrally at Campus Valhallavägen, at Alba Nova University Center close to physics departments at both Stockholm University and KTH, in the medical technology hub Campus Flemingsberg, and at the national research center SciLifeLab and the Karolinska Institute in Solna. The departments of Fibre and Polymer Technology, where the position is placed, has around 130 co-workers and is divided in 7 different divisions of which the Fibre Technology is one. The Fibre Technology has around 25 co-workers divided on 4 seniors, 4 Post doctors and Doctoral students.

Job description

This Post doctor project is a part of a major project entitled Digital Cellulose Centre (www.vinnova.se/en/m/kompetenscentrum/digital-cellulose-center), financed by Vinnova, University of Linköping Campus Norrköping, KTH, RISE Bioeconomy, RISE Acreo and industrial partners.

This specific project is aimed at identifying the most promising applications of cellulose nanofibrils in electrically interactive devices and focusing on developing these further. Due to the rapid development of the organic electronics field and the need for renewable raw materials there has been a tremendous interest in using cellulose as a structural material due to its excellent strength, durability in tough chemical environments and the possibility for bottom-up engineering using cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs). Due to the rapid development it is essential to identify the most promising devices that can be produced with CNF and to pursue the development of these devices. It is therefore essential to make a careful survey to identify the most promising areas and then to start research in these areas. It is important to stress that the research conducted in this area is found at low TRL-levels, i.e. below 4.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

  • Have good academic records.
  • Have a PhD degree in chemistry, organic electronics or in CNF-based materials development.
  • Have experience of forming devices from organic and inorganic components and an insight in how to evaluate the properties of these devices.
  • Have experience in using laboratory equipment such as AFM, QCM, SEM, TEM, FTIR.
  • Are fluent in English, not only for academic writing but also for oral communication.

It will be considered an advantage if you have additional knowledge or experience in (wood) fibre technology or other bio-based materials.

As a person you are self-motivated and persistent. You have the ability to work hard and spend time, energy and commitment to your work. You remain focused on your goal and work. You take great responsibility in your work and we find it important that you follow the quality standards required for your work and ensures nothing is left to chance.
