KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Industrial Engineering and Management

Job description

The development towards smart factories intends products and production resources such as machines, robots and tools to have the inbuilt capabilities to communicate, make self-diagnose, become self-learning and possess the ability to perform self-adjustments, adaptations and optimizations. In other words, products and processes are intended to become more intelligent and autonomous.

The research group in dependability within the department of sustainable production development is offering a postdoc position focusing on integrated analytics for advanced machinery. The successful candidate will join a research group that is focusing on novel design methodologies for identification and controlling of advanced cyber-physical productions systems by utilizing precising engineering and metrology principles in combination with industrial analytics.

The position is associated with the following sub-topics:

  • Advanced machinery such as machine tools and industrial robots
  • Sensors and measurement systems and their application for identification and monitoring
  • Advanced algorithms for diagnostics and prognostics
  • Digital twins and model-based analytics
  • Root cause analysis and error budgets

The candidate will be responsible to develop new strategies for the detection, identification and modelling of errors in advanced machinery subsystem, this entails:

  • Development of approaches for damage detection and propagation mechanisms in various subsystems
  • Design and construction of a test beds for integrated analytics
  • Planning and running experiments for verification and validation (V&V)

Furthermore, the candidate will also support in teaching activities, such as supervising PhD and M.Sc. students

Qualifications

To be qualified for the position the candidate must hold a PhD degree (in electrical, mechanical or production engineering or equivalent area) with focus in advanced production machinery. The PhD degree cannot be older than three years. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills are a requirement.

The candidate should have excellent programming skills and be able to develop smart algorithms for high performance analysis. MATLAB/Simulink proficiency is a bonus. Competence in sensors and signal analysis with a good understanding of the role of measurement in the production chain are also advantageous for the position.
