KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Job description

This project will create new metabolic pathways for production of biochemicals, and to test these pathways in a non-photosynthetic, CO2-fixing bacteria. In one part of the project, mutagenesis “libraries” of the host strain will be created and screened in high-throughput, using state-of-the-art techniques. Systems biology analysis of selected strains, such as proteomics and metabolomics, will be used to identify flux bottlenecks in conversion of CO2 to biochemical. This project has a large experimental component. Metabolic modeling will be done with computational biologists in the group. The project is part of an international collaboration between groups in metabolic engineering, metabolic modeling, and enzymologists at KTH, EPFL, and Greifswald. The applicant will therefore work closely with experts in these areas.

Work is in the research group of Paul Hudson in the school of Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Health at KTH. Our group is located at Science for Life Laboratory. The group works on systems biology and metabolic engineering of autotrophic bacteria. See also https://www.kth.se/profile/huds
