KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Computer Science

Representations of AUV Perception for Navigation: The student will join the team working in the Swedish Marine Robotics Centre, SMaRC. The specific goal is to use machine learning on sonar data to build representations of the seafloor that will allow recognition and alignment using sonar. We have already begun this by collecting much data and applying deep learning to it. We expect that a novel approach based on both the physics of the sonar and variational inference can yield latent space representations that will go well beyond the current state of the art. The full description of the project can be found on http://www.nada.kth.se/~johnf/WASP19.pdf. The doctoral candidate will work under the supervision of Associate Prof. John Folkesson (https://www.kth.se/profile/johnf/).
