Project description
Third-cycle subject: Electrical engineering
All Internet communication comes without guarantees for the transfer of data. When mission-critical functions depend on internet communication, the lack of guarantees becomes a limitation for applications that require low delay and loss, and it entails a vulnerability to overload attacks. The established research area of quality of service is now in need of new, sharp contributions to address weaknesses in internet services and offer reliability in data deliveries in addition to the "best effort" that is today's level.
The project addresses protocol design for higher reliability and builds on new proposals such as the transport protocols QUIC and Multipath TCP. The reliability also depends on the underlying service. Therefore, modeling of loss and delay, and routing and traffic control are included in the work.
The purpose of the project is to develop and provide new solutions for reliable data communication over the internet. Good knowledge of programming and networking is an advantage. The work also consists of mathematical modeling and simulation.
