Project description
Third-cycle subject: Computer Sience
This thesis aims at creating an artificial software developer that continuously augments and repairs software tests. Software tests are small programs of their own that assess specific behaviors of a large software system that is under development and evolution. Human developers write thousands of such software tests and they are continuously checking that the correctness of the program does not deteriorate through the development process. Our bot-tester would work in collaboration with the human developers by continuously analyzing test executions. The bot will aim at detecting flaws and weakness in these tests and will generate new tests to fix those flaws. The fixes would be proposed to the human developers through their regular tool chain, e.g., the code review system.
The Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is funding this PhD position. WASP is Sweden’s largest ever individual research program, and provides a platform for academic research and education, fostering interaction with Sweden’s leading technology companies.
