Project description
Third-cycle subject: Physics
In 2018 a Swedish national initiative in quantum technology, the Wallenberg Center in Quantum Technology (WACQT) was funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The center is a ≈100 MEuro, national project running for ten years with coordination nodes at KTH, Chalmers University, and Lund University. The center’s objectives are well aligned with the EU Quantum Technology Flagship’s, but is independent of the latter.
As part of this initiative KTH are strengthening the efforts to develop technology for new functional nano-waveguide structures for quantum technology. The structures will be made from III-V semiconductor material, and the main emphasis will be on efficient generation of photon-pairs in polarization-entangled states. Apart from quantum optics, the project includes fundamental studies of the optical nonlinearity in semiconductor-based nanostructures, simulations, cleanroom fabrication, and the experimental evaluation and analysis.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with two laboratories at KTH, which have access to Electrum-Cleanroom located on the Kista campus and KTH-lab in AlbaNova University Center. The Quantum Electronics and Quantum Optics group is located at the School of Engineering Sciences at AlbaNova where the position is going to be placed.
The employment is four years with a possibility of maximum up to five years. Up to 20 percent department duties are included in the employment.
