Job description

In order to produce high-quality foods with minimal loss, modern agriculture is very much dependent on pesticides. However, the overuse of these chemicals is lethal to the environment and significantly contributes to human health, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The research work is primarily focused on developing an environmentally friendly approach for crop protection as an alternative to conventional chemical pesticides against oomycete pathogens. The tasks associated with the position include independently developing and analyzing research at a high qualitative level and being able to communicate the research results to the research group and to a wider audience. Being responsible for few projects in parallel and supervising the lab’s master students. The project also involves collaboration with different research partner both in Sweden and abroad. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the collaborative writing of those high-impact papers that will summarize the results achieved.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in a subject relevant for the research, such as cell and molecular biology, biotechnology or biochemistry.
  • Experience of handling, maintaining and working with various pathogenic oomycetes.
  • Experience of cloning, expression and purification of proteins in various hosts.
  • An excellent knowledge of English and have the ability to express in both spoken and written form

The following experiences are seen as merits.

  • Working knowledge of Python or R and Linux will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with in-silico and in-vitro characterization of proteins, including enzymatic characterization.
  • Experience with protein crystallization and data analysis.
  • Working experience with genomics, metagenomics and RNA-Seq data analyses.

Emphasis would be given to the candidates who are self-driven, responsible, and has personal and professional maturity. Additionally, emphasis is also given if you have good communication skills and are collaborative with good analytical and problem solving skills.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
