Project description
Third-cycle subject: Electrical Engineering
Learning Dynamical Systems is an area closely related to cyber-physical systems as well as real-time big data analytics, and it provides backbone algorithms for digitalization of industry and society. Together with researchers from Uppsala University, and with strong support from the Swedish Research Council, we are now building the research environment NewLEADS for this core technology in autonomous systems with applications such as smart buildings, self-driving vehicles, and self-learning robots. We focus on theory development around three important themes: Fundamental techniques focuses on how to learn parsimonious models in a statistical and computationally efficient way. Active and on-line learning concerns how to improve data-efficiency by actively controlling the excitation of the system in a sequential manner, possibly together with an application specific objective. Dynamical networked systems addresses issues of relevance to interconnected systems, a field rapidly increasing in importance thanks to the fast develpment of (wireless) communication technology and the Internet-Of-Things paradigm.
NewLEADS consists of 7 senior researchers complemented by postdocs and doctoral students. As a doctoral student in NewLEADS you will be jointly supervised by researchers from the two schools, you will have the possibility to visit other leading international research groups and to participate in international conferences. The doctoral program in Electrical Engineering provides world class quality education, including a large list of graduate courses.
One of the positions is sponsored by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), funded by Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. This doctoral student will attend the WASP-AS Gradate School.
