Job description
The goal of this position is to further research in sound computing (interactive sonification, sonic interaction design, digital sound design) through an in-depth understanding of existing sound design traditions in media production.
The researcher will be expected to conduct field studies and empirical research on sound design practices in media productions, such as fiction and non-fictional film, TV, games, and theatre, in order to learn from the past and inform and develop new digital sound design approaches for the future. New approaches will be tested in a variety of contexts with particular attention to areas of societal impact: health, sustainability, disability, climate, ethical use of technology, etc.
The postholder will work with Dr. Sandra Pauletto as a mentor and will be situated within the Sound and Music Computing SMC research team at MID https://www.kth.se/mid/research/smc.
The position is mainly a research position, with a small fraction of departmental duties (e.g. teaching). This postdoctoral position is a full-time employed position for 2 years.
The starting date is open for discussion, though ideally, we would like the successful candidate to start in October 2019 or as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research at 75% and teaching at 25% of their employment.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a subject relevant for the research, such as music technology, audio technology, sound computing, sound design, media production with specialization in audio, or related discipline.
Solid knowledge and experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods, appropriate data analysis, and scholarly and public communication are expected. Demonstrating an interest in topics of societal impact is the desired characteristic.
For this position, the applicant should have a doctoral exam that is not older than 3 years at the deadline for this application (there are some exceptions for special grounds, for instance, sick leave and parental leave).
Applicants should have good collaborative skills as well as the ability to work independently. Finally, a very good knowledge of English is required.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
