Job description

In the position as a postdoc, you will work in the context of the newly established NAVET center, with placement at the Dept. of Media Technology and Interaction Design, part of EECS School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

The overarching goal for the NAVET center is to be a meeting place for research and projects in the intersection of art, technology, and design, with the purpose of facilitating and creating opportunities for exchange and research collaboration among artists, designers, engineers, humanists, natural and social scientists. A central task for the center is to support the subject area art, technology, and design as a field of research, as well as develop knowledge of cross-cultural management in order to facilitate the inter- and transdisciplinary culture that the center seeks to establish.

The long-term vision of the new center is to give hub-partners, and Sweden at large, a leading position in the intersectional area Art, Technology and Design, with a practical and critical approach that stimulates research, innovation, creativity, and the development of a sustainable society.

For the successful candidate, this involves working with researchers from NAVET’s partner institutions as well as with visiting partner researchers and artists from other national and international institutions. 

The successful candidate will contribute to create an environment for already existing projects and collaborations in the area and to stimulate the formation of new work and thinking.

The successful candidate will contribute to scientific publications, artistic works as well as to new grant applications. Your work will include in-depth case studies, organization of research activities and dissemination of project results through performances, exhibitions, conference participation, and peer-reviewed publications.

The workload will be divided as follows: 80% of time research, 20% of time organization of above-mentioned activities and preparation of grant applications, and the employment will be for two years. 

Qualifications

Applicants must hold or be about to receive a doctoral degree covering studies and projects in the intersectional area Art, Technology and Design (or in equivalent areas). The doctoral degree must have been obtained within the last three years from the application deadline (some exceptions for special grounds, for instance, sick leave and parental leave). The candidate should have a strong background from at least one of the areas:

  • Sound and Music Computing
  • Human-Machine interaction

  • Performative and Mediated Practices
  • Art, Technology, and Design
  • Sensor Technology
  • Body Motion Analysis
  • Narrative Processes
  • Material Culture

The successful applicant should have an outstanding research and publication record. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills are a requirement. We are looking for a strongly motivated person, who is able to work independently. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
