Project description
Third-cycle subject: Electrical engineering
We are seeking one doctoral student with a strong background and interest in mathematical modeling and future networked services. Future networks will have to support data and computation intensive applications, such as services for factory automation, assisted living or autonomous driving. This can be achieved by utilizing the computing capacity that is available at the network nodes, such as mobile base-stations, or at the the community of end-user devices, solutions that are referred to as edge and fog computing.
The objective of this project is to develop edge and fog computing solutions and to derive their fundamental performance limits. This requires the co-design of computing, storage and networking, based on rigorous mathematical modeling of user behavior, computing processes and network performance.
A successful candidate need to have an interest and excellent knowledge in stochastic modeling and algorithm design. The project will require the candidate to perform formal mathematical analysis as well as experimental validation of concepts in the context of networked systems.
