Job description

In close cooperation with Scania and AstraZeneca, and others, KTH builds up a future-oriented research and education environment at the Department of Sustainable Production Development in Södertälje. We are now expanding the research group with researchers and doctoral students in the areas of production logistics, production management and operational reliability. This postdoc position is part of the expansion and has a focus on production logistics and will, among other things, work within the new 3-year Swedish-South Korean research project C-PALS on data collection, data analysis and visualization of key performance indicators for material handling and production logistics. This is done, among other things, by developing methods for structured and automatic collection and processing of large amounts of data in manual and semi-automatic material handling and on the basis of this link models / decision support for efficient follow-up, planning and optimization of complex production and logistics systems.

The position is a full-time job, which will last for up to 2 years, of which at least 80% is devoted to research and up to 20% of the time is devoted to teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels. You are expected to merit yourself as a researcher in the field of production logistics with active participation in projects at the Department of Sustainable Production Development at KTH in Södertälje, primarily within the Eureka-funded project C-PALS (Cyber-Physical Assembly and Logistics Systems in Global Supply Chains). The teaching takes place within the master's programs at the department. The research is conducted in close collaboration with industrial companies, primarily the Swedish project partner companies Scania, Ericsson and H&D Wireless, as well as South Korean universities and companies. The education and research is conducted in Swedish and English, which is why an ability or ambition to express yourself in Swedish and English in speech and writing facilitates the work. Participation in national and international networks as well as involvement in the research group’s further development is also included.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, the applicant must have fulfilled all requirements for a PhD in production engineering, production management, logistics, supply chain management, industrial economics, computer science or equivalent area that is relevant for digitization in production logistics. Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree no later than three years ago, or are planning to take their exam, before starting of the employment.

Furthermore, it’s required to have:

  • Knowledge of production systems and logistic processes in manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of smart production, Industry 4.0 and digitization of production and logistics
  • Applicants must have good research and publication merit
  • Experience of, and interest in, applied research projects in collaboration with external industrial partners
  • Excellent ability to express yourself in writing and speech in English
  • Ability or expressed ambition to learn Swedish in text and speech

  • Knowledge and experience of analysis tools for data management within production or logistics
  • Knowledge and experience of KPIs, dashboards, performance measurement systems, and its development
  • Previous experience of project applications and participation in EU projects
  • Experience of working in the industry
  • Self-motivation and creativity
  • Networks in the production and logistics area
  • Interest in translating research results and new knowledge into a format that suits industrial application
