Job description

The research engineer position will focus on energy access efforts in developing countries. In particular, the research activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Research and development of the OpeN Source Spatial Electrification Tool (OnSSET) aiming to support national and local policy development for achieving energy access goals
  • Contribute in electrification activities within the framework of collaboration with the United Nations, The World Bank and other international organizations
  • Assist in capacity building efforts in the use of the division's toolkit OnSSET by authorities in developing countries

Furthermore, the candidate is expected to take part in projects and activities in the division, and to contribute to activities related to the application of the Climate, Land, Energy and Water framework for integrated resources assessment.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you have a MSc. in Energy Technology, or similar. Furthermore, you have:

  • A strong background in Energy Modelling and proven experience in collaboration with international organizations working in the field
  • Knowledge of conducting electrification assessments on regional, national and/or sub-national level under a geospatial context
  • Demonstrated competence in (Energy) Resources Assessment, e.g. through Remote Sensing Techniques, OnSSET, ArcGIS/QGIS or other methods
  • A firm understanding of the energy situation and energy access issues in developing countries through the involvement in projects with international organizations
  • A firm understanding of the Climate-, Land use-, Energy- and Water nexus
  • Fluenct skills in English, both orally and in writing

We are looking for a candidate with the ability to rapidly learn and master new energy related software, has a flexibility with traveling in various settings, and has a good ability to work in a dynamic and multi-cultural team setting.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
