Job description

The researcher will be involved in two projects regarding the valorization of agricultural by-products into bioactive polysaccharides for food and material applications. The researcher will directly participate in the hydrothermal extraction of cereal and fungal polysaccharides and their structural characterization using chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques. The researcher will also investigate the activity of carbohydrate active enzymes for the deconstruction and modification of cereal and fungal biomass streams. The researcher will also be involved in assisting on the administrative management of the projects as well as in the dissemination of the research results through research publications. Finally, the candidate is expected to participate in the co-supervision of PhD, master and bachelor students.

Qualifications

The candidate should demonstrate experience in the development of biorefinery processes for biomass conversion into biopolymers and chemicals, and the characterization of complex polysaccarides from biomass. The candidate should have excellent communication skills in scientific English, both oral and written.

Experience in the determination of the molecular structure of polysaccharides by chromatographis techniques is desired. Experience in the participation in EU projects, including scientific and administrative management of such projects is desired. Evidence of (co)-supervision of PhD students, master and bachelor students is also desired.

The candidate should have a PhD in Biotechnology or related topics.
