The Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering (SEED) is one of the recently strategically formed departments within School of Architecture and Built Environment at the KTH. The purpose is to meet the societal demands for sustainable development in the field of environmental science and technology.
The KTH-International Groundwater Arsenic Research Group is one of the leading research groups with multidisciplinary fields of environment and geochemistry, Groundwater chemistry, land and water pollution research around the globe. The goal of the group is to help the society by providing innovative technologies to protect different elements of ecosystems. KTH Royal Institute of Technology has worked in Bangladesh on arsenic mitigation in collaboration with academia, governmental and civil society organization during the past 20 years.
Programme Description
KTH has signed an agreement with UNICEF to implement a programme titled ‘Enhancing private sector capacity for scaling up access to safe drinking water - policy, systems strengthening and sustainable service delivery’ in Bangladesh until the end of 2021. The proposed work components include planning and development of protocols, implementation and up-scaling of the Sustainable Arsenic Mitigation (SASMIT) protocol as well as further capacity building on drinking water safety. The SASMIT Protocol combines science with local knowledge to scientifically validate the sediment colour concept during drilling by private/local drillers to deliver arsenic safe water. The programme outputs strategically address the underlying bottlenecks, engage and facilitate government leadership and the institutional harmonization to enhance the capacity of the private sector to ensure safe drinking water for all. The programme extends around 2 years.
Job description
The Research Engineer is required to provide expert support for programme implementation, which include hydrogeological baseline assessment, mapping of drillers policy formulations etc. There is a special focus on coordination among different collaborators of Unicef-Sida supported programme. One of the key functions is to provide support in programme management in order to fulfill programme objectives. Travelling aboard for field support and to take part in presentations, meetings, and international conferences is part of the duties.
The position includes up to 20% departmental service, primarily teaching in courses offered by the Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering (SEED).
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of work experience working with water, of which at least 3 years must be at an international organisation
- Evidential experience on communication skills on implementing projects involving multifaceted stakeholders on SDG-6 issues
- Work experience in South-Asia region, especially with marginalised people and policy makers
- Experience of scientific communication in International conferences and publication
- At least one publication with ISBN on Water issues
- Bachelor's degree with four years university studies
- At least 60 credits/ECTS are completed at the advanced (master's) level
