KTH, School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology & Health

Job description

The primary goal of the appointment involves the development and synthesis of novel ligands for developing a better understanding of important factors in water oxidation catalysis. The work within this research project will focus on design, synthesis and characterization of various organic ligands. This is followed by synthesis of the catalysts through complexation of the prepared ligands to the reactive metal center. The project involves (electro)chemical characterization of catalyst properties to detail on structural, redox and kinetic behavior during catalysis. An additional focus of the project will be on developing novel immobilization strategies for metal complexes, in order to obtain active electrode materials. The applicant is thus expected to conduct advanced research in the fields of organic chemistry, coordination chemistry, materials chemistry as well as electrochemistry.

In addition to the primary goal of the appointment, the applicant is expected to take part in organizational tasks at the division and in mentoring and providing guidance to more junior members in the group.

Qualifications

The applicant must have experience in conducting electrochemical research and electrocatalysis (proven by peer-reviewed publications).

Experience in guidance of students (e.g. through teaching or supervision of students), organization (e.g. organization of meetings/conferences), scientific writing (e.g. through writing reviews and/or book chapters) is considered an asset for this position.

The applicant should:

1) Be capable to communicate and write in English

2) Be capable of performing research independently

3) Be cooperative and supportive to other group members

4) Have a critical view on scientific results

5) Be thorough and organized

The applicant must hold a PhD in Chemistry. The research experience of the applicant should include organic chemistry, ligand design as well as organometallic catalysis (proven by peer-reviewed publications).

Additional research experience as a postdoctoral researcher is considered an asset for this position

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
