The Division of Urban and Regional Studies within the Department of Urban Planning and Environment is a multi-disciplinary environment that focuses on the study of local and regional development as it relates to sustainable development, actors and processes, and institutional preconditions. Research projects in the division involve in-depth theorization and development of better practices, often in collaboration with non-academic actors in the public, private and non-for-profit sectors.

Job description

The position is a full-time one year postdoc in urban and regional studies, within the area urban heritage and urbanism.

The postdoc position is connected with ongoing projects including urban heritage and urbanism as a research subject, which aims to understand the main forces shaping the contemporary and historic urban landscapes, influencing public space systems and citizens within them. The work has a conceptual character and holds both literature studies and data analysis through multiple data sources.

The post-doc will be integrated in the Center of Future of Places and the Division of Urban and Regional Studies. The position also includes teaching in the Urbanism Studies program.

The research project leader is Dr. Tigran Haas.

Qualifications

Requirements

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. It is meritorious if the degree is obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.

Experience in urban design research at different urban scales, is required. You should have strong theoretical and practical knowledge in the field and are well acquainted with the various methodologies required for executing and publishing research.

The successful applicant should have knowledge in the area of urban heritage, urban morphology, urban revitalization theories, and the use of other urban design tools. Experience in coordinating and lecturing and/or teaching lab sessions at advanced level is required.

The candidate should be able to prioritize, take responsibility and work independently within the project framework, as well as enjoy working together and establishing good relationships with both internal and external partners.

Excellency of written and oral English is required to present and publish research results. The selection will specifically assess academic prerequisites and appropriateness, relevance in experience of previous studies, subject knowledge and references.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.
