Project description
Third-cycle subject: Biological physics
The microscope has undergone a revolution in the last years, a development that has received much attention and, e.g. been awarded the Nobel Prize. Despite all the advanced microscopy techniques developed, there is still a great need for instrument development in order to meet the demands of biological imaging from cell biology and biophysics. There is a great interest for studies of biological processes in the living cell with higher resolution, in both space and time, than possible with current microscopy methods.
We have received funding from the Foundation for Strategic Research, SSF, for the development of a new type of fast 3D microscopy and are now hiring PhD students who wants to participate in this project. Applicants should have a passion for technology development and have a particular interest for optics and physical measurement techniques as well as applications in biology and medicine. The project is in close cooperation with researchers at UCSC, USA.
Our laboratory is located at SciLifeLab ( http://www.scilifelab.se ) and consists of a mix of physicists, biologists and physicians. At SciLifeLab we also operate the national infrastructure for super-resolution microscopy.
Supervision: Professor Hjalmar Brismar and associate professor Hans Blom.

Doctoral students may engage in teaching, research, and administration corresponding to a maximum of 20 % of a full-time position.
