Project description
Third-cycle subject: Physics - specialization: Atomic, Subatomic, and Astrophysics
The Doctoral student will join the particle and astroparticle physics division at the Department of Physics. The astrophysics research at the division focuses on analysis and interpretation of observational data of cosmic explosions (gamma-ray bursts, supernovae and their remnants), compact objects (e.g. active galactic nuclei and X-ray binaries), as well as the development of instrumentation for X-ray astronomy and cosmic rays. These activities are a part of the Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics (http://okc.albanova.se/) at AlbaNova University Centre, which provides a prominent and stimulating research environment. The Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (NORDITA) is located nearby.
The main focus for the PhD position is studies of supernova remnants. The work will primarily involve analysis and modelling of observational data. X-ray, optical and other multiwavelength observations will be used.
The employment is four years. Should department duties/teaching be included in the employment up to a level of 20 percent, an extension can be granted up to a maximum of five years.

Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle studies may be employed as a doctoral student. The term of the initial contract may not exceed one year and may there after be extended. Doctoral students may engage in teaching, research, and administration corresponding to a maximum of 20 % of a full-time position.
