Project description
Third-cycle subject: Physics - specialization: Biological and biomedical physics
The position is placed at the Dept. of Applied Physics in the Biomedical and X-Ray Physics group. The group’s research is primarily experimental and directed towards applied physics for biomedical applications. A major research topic is the development of a new laboratory-based soft x-ray microscope for applications primarily in cell biology. The microscope consist of a laser-plasma source, advanced x-ray optics , a cryo sample stage, and a high-resolution detector. The goal of the present project is to optimize the microscope for imaging of biological objects in three dimensions with very high spatial resolution. The project is interdisciplinary and spans from physics and advanced engineering to biology.

It is a merit to have experience from experimental work with laboratory soft x-ray microscopy. It is an additional advantage if the applicant has experience of experimental analysis of limitations in resolution of such instruments.
After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and personal suitability.
Target degree: Doctoral degree.
Information regarding admission and employment
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle studies may be employed as a doctoral student. The term of the initial contract may not exceed one year and may there after be extended. Doctoral students may engage in teaching, research, and administration corresponding to a maximum of 20 % of a full-time position.
