Job description

You will be working at the Nuclear Engineering Division and contribute to the VR-funded project “Development of passive safety design approaches and self-actuated shut-down systems for an inherently safe, efficient and reliable operation of Gen-IV fast reactors”.

Your main tasks will consist in:

  • Continuing the development of self-actuated control/safety systems to be implemented into Gen-IV Lead- and Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors;
  • Contributing to the development of dynamic models of BoP components for Rankine thermodynamic cycles (e.g., condensers, pumps, pre-heaters, etc.);
  • Contributing to the development of a preliminary control strategy for the reactor SEALER-UK;
  • Writing scientific papers and reports;
  • Submitting applications for national and European research project grants.

Qualifications

Required for this position:

  • Sc. in Nuclear Engineering;
  • Strong background in: Generation-IV reactor technology and fast reactor designs, nuclear reactor physics, nuclear reactor technology, fast reactor dynamics, fast reactor safety, heat transfer, thermo-dynamics, power conversion, linear and non-linear system analysis;
  • Basic knowledge of control theory fundamentals;
  • Good knowledge and experience in Matlab-Simulink;
  • Basic knowledge of OpenFoam and Python;
  • Good programming skills.

Background considered as a plus includes experience in Lead-cooled Fast Reactor dynamics (modeling and simulation).

For this position you need a strong motivation, with a desire to experiment and explore.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.

Fluency in spoken and written English is a mandatory requirement, as well as excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
