Processes for fiber-based materials from forest resources

Subject description

The subject field ranges from traditional industrial processes for paper and packaging manufacturing to new processes and industrial fabrication of novel materials based on wood-pulp fibres and nanocellulose. This includes characterization techniques for monitoring and controlling manufacturing processes as well as structure characterization of fabricated materials, specifically using advanced characterization techniques based on synchrotron radiation and neutron scattering.

Duties

The position includes the following main duties:

  • Develop and lead research in the subject area
  • Academic leadership and international contacts
  • Develop a strong interaction with Swedish industry related to the subject area
  • Supervision of students on bachelor, master and research levels
  • Teaching in bachelor, master and research level courses
  • Faculty assignments
  • Contribute to the achievement of the KTH sustainability goals

Eligibility

A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise shall be qualified for employment as a professor.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.1, apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the majority of the parts of the subject area, demonstrated among others through publications in peer-reviewed and recognized international journals;
  • demonstrated ability to establish, develop and lead research in the subject area;
  • ability to seek and obtain funding financing for research and innovation activities within the subject area,
  • documented ability to collaborate with industry and universities, national and international,
  • documented ability to collaborate in research groups from a variety of disciplines,
  • ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and inform of research and development activities,
  • administrative and interpersonal skills.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • teaching skills in the subject field,
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • a strong industry network.
