Project description
Third-cycle subject: Vehicle and Maritime Engineering
Vehicle Dynamics and ITRL at KTH seek a PhD student for a 3 year research project REDO (REmote Driving Operations) financed by FFI. The research will be done at Vehicle Dynamics and ITRL on the RCV-E vehicles and the Traffic Control Tower. Collaboration will also take place with other PhD student at VTI and with other industrial partners in the project.
To bridge problems and overcome obstacles the remote driving of partially automated vehicles (AV) is a promising towards introduction of AVs. For remote operation on a tactical and strategic level, the operator task may differ from a normal driver since the operator may control several vehicles simultaneously. This may require new interfaces and concepts of interaction for safe and efficient operation. This project will research how the take-over from autonomous driving to remote operation should be done and how the safety and performance of remote operation can be increased with help of feedback from vehicle to the operator and control of the remote vehicle to support the operator. Thus, research will include: vehicle dynamics, automatic control and HMI and involve theoretical analysis, modelling and simulation and experiments.
We seek candidates with good knowledge of vehicle dynamics and control where knowledge of driver-vehicle interaction and driving simulators is of merit.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be placed at KTH Vechicle Dynamics and at the research centre ITRL and supervised by: Assoc. Prof. Mickael Nybacka and Assoc. Prof. Lars Drugge.
What we offer
Eligibility
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
Degree requirement: MSc in Vehicle Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Automatic Control or equivalent. Relevant degree project, international experience and language skills are advantageous qualifications.
Selection
