Subject description

Mathematical analysis in a broad sense, including not only central areas of analysis, but also areas of mathematics where analysis is a dominating characteristic. Examples of the latter include subareas of dynamical systems, geometry, mathematical physics, partial differential equations, probability theory and number theory.

Duties

Research and education at the division of mathematics. The teaching assignment can include teaching and supervision on the bachelor, master and/or PhD-levels. Some administrational duties may also be included. The associate professor must be able to teach in English at the time of employment and in Swedish within two years.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve , and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointment procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field, shown for example by publication in international journals of high quality.
  • teaching skills in the subject fields. This includes the ability to plan, lead and carry out education at different levels, including supervision.

Of second highest importance is that the applicant has

  • ability and background to teach in Swedish within two years. 

It is also important that the applicant has

  • the ability to interact with the surrounding society and also provide information about research and development work.
  • administrative expertise and interpersonal skills.
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
