Job description

The Department of Mathematics is offering two two-year post-doctoral positions within foundational and applied algebraic geometry in the research groups led by Sandra Di Rocco (position sponsored by “Verg Foundation”) and Kathlén Kohn (position sponsored by “WASP - Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program”). The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant and diverse group in algebraic geometry as well as the newly established unit “Mathematics of Data and AI”. There will also be a strong interactions with the “Brummer & Partners MathDataLab” which is a research lab in mathematics and applied mathematics, hosted at the Department of Mathematics,  that aims at creating a hub for mathematical research in the analysis of complex data.

The post-doctoral positions should focus on research in different aspects of algebraic geometry: foundational, computational and applied (e.g. towards machine learning or data science). Teaching duties of at most 20% are included in the position.

Qualifications

A PhD degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely related area. We seek candidates with a strong background in algebraic geometry and with computational skills (e.g. Macaulay2 or Python). The successful applicant should be strongly motivated, have the capability to work independently as well as in collaboration with members of the research groups, and have good communication skills. No skills in Swedish are required.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.

Preferred qualifications include, in addition, ability to collaborate, independence, and pedagogical skills.
