Subject description

The subject covers the use of natural and synthetic fibers and polymers based on renewable raw materials, preferably from the forest, to study and construct new smart materials and devices, with applications in areas such as electronics, biosensors and energy.

Duties

The employment includes creating an high-quality, international education and research activity in the subject area, including the development of a new instrumentation based on new evaluation principles for these new materials and devices. The duties also include conducting high-quality, international education at basic, advanced and research level in the field of fiber-based materials and smart materials and devices, as well as contributing to meeting KTH's goals in sustainable development.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • scientific skills in the subject area.
  • educational skills in the subject area.
  • experience in supervising doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes having knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • documented ability to apply for and receive research grants for their current research activities.
  • documented ability of course development and teaching at both basic or advanced level as well as at research level.
  • ability to interact with the surrounding community and ability to inform about their activities.
  • good interpersonal skills.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative skills.
