KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Applied and Computational Mathematics, specialization Numerical Analysis.

The department of Mathematics at Royal Institute of Technology seeks applications for a Ph.D student position in Applied and Computational Mathematics for a project on construction and analysis of computational methods for molecular dynamics and partial differential equations in high dimension. The position is funded by the Swedish Research Council.

Computer simulations are becoming more important for chemists and physicists. The simulations are for example used in designing new materials and determining biochemical reactions in drug design. The project is about construction and mathematical analysis of computational methods for molecular dynamics related to new methods in machine learning. The project combines mathematical analysis of stochastic and partial differential equations, numerical analysis, programming and modeling of molecular systems.

You are expected to develop own ideas and communicate scientific results both orally and in writing.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be placed at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and supervised by: Professor Anders Szepessy.
