The Department of Network and Systems Engineering of the EECS School consists of about 40 faculty members, researchers and Ph.D. students who contribute to a high professional standard of intensive work and quality results, as well as to a friendly and open environment. The staff has a multicultural background and the working language is English. We are an internationally recognized department investigating most aspects of Networks, Computer and Wireless Networking, Internet of Things.

Project description
We are seeking 1-2 PhD students with a strong background and interest in Mathematics, Optimization, Machine Larning, and Networks, as well as in Experimental and Systems Research.  The following research directions will be investigated:

  • ML and Decision making algorithms for distributed data sets
  • ML and Decision-making algorithms over networks

A successful candidate will perform formal analysis as well as experimental validation of concepts in the context of networked systems.

Qualifications 
The candidates are expected to hold or to shortly receive an MSc degree in Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Electrical engineering, Computer Science or similar fields. The candidates should have excellent grades, very good skills in oral and written communication, and well developed analytical and problem solving skills. They should be ready to contribute to an international research group and a scientific research agenda of major importance for European industry and society. Eligibility
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:

  • passed a degree at advanced level,
  • completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
  • in any other way acquired within or outside the country acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.

Selection
In order to succeed as an doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. In the selection of the applicants, the following will be assessed:

  • ability to independently pursue his or hers work,
  • ability to collaborate with others,
  • have a professional approach and
  • analyse and work with complex issues.

After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and personal suitability.

Target degree: Doctoral degree

Information regarding admission and employment Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
